P40N Project March 2009 : After 228 combat missions in the Pacific, Pilot Ray Melikian left behind his Curtiss P40N fighter plane and returned to the States. The aircraft was virtually destroyed in a crash sometime after 1944 and eventually wound up in the hands of Chris Prevost, owner of Vintage Aircraft Company in Sonoma, California. After eight years of careful rebuilding it is in essentially flawless condition. At the age of 90 Ray flew again on March 15, 2008. I had the chance to meet up with with the P40N in Vintage Aircraft's T6 for the photos you see here. There's much more to this story and if you'd like to hear it call me at (559) 222-1294. Fresno Magazine Challenge : Fresno Magazine Challenge Event Saturday, December 22, 2007 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Five Restaurant Nominated by Roland & Linda Tamayo, the 2007 Fresno Magazine Challenge recipient was the Pina Lopez family. Pina is a single mother raising 3 children, one with health challenges, & also supports her mother who lives with them. She has blessed all the families she works for by being willing to go above & beyond her normal duties of house cleaning. She has even donated her time to help with fundraising events & cooked for people needing help recovering from health issues. She is an amazing woman who puts others before herself & has a very positive attitude. In spite of an old & unreliable vehicle, she maintains her work load & always looks to take on more business to support her family. Her future desire is to become active in hospice care. In just 7 days, the Challenge event donations bestowed upon the Lopez family included: A "Giving Party" hosted by Patrick & Marina La Rocca at Five Restaurant on Saturday, December 22, 2007, a 2006 mini-van donated by Michael's Automotive, dental services provided by Michelle B. Asselin, DDS, meals from Dinner My Way in Clovis, family portraits & photos taken that day by Grand Design Photography, a Christmas Tree Lane limo ride compliments of 1st Class Limousine Service, & many generous cash & services donations from Jim Boswell, Bentley's, Longs, Jamba Juice, Big 5 Sporting Goods, The Spa & Hungry Hair Salon, Savemart, Main Dish, & Bouquet of Fruits to name a few.
